Gary discusses recent logic being dropped regarding abortion on the daytime TV show, The View, by resident theologian Whoppi Goldberg.

Secularists says human life is expendable if the cause is good enough. Who defines “good enough”? We kill animals for food. Man is only a highly evolved animal. Therefore man can be killed for any number of “socially acceptable reasons”: over-population, high medical costs for the terminally ill, and the inconveniences of too many children. After a debate on the abortion issue, one of the participants had the opportunity to speak with some of the students in attendance: “[M]ost of the students already recognized that the unborn child is a human life. Nevertheless, certain social reasons are considered ‘high enough’ to justify ending that life. According to some of the women, examples of ‘high enough’ reasons include protecting pregnant teenagers from the psychological distress of bearing a child, helping poor women who aren’t able to care adequately for a child, and preventing children from coming into the world ‘unwanted.’ Many charged that pro-life philosophies are not ‘socially acceptable’ because they fail to deal realistically with these problems.”[1]

Communism’s horrors are often justified with the infamous quip made by communist admirers of the failed Soviet utopian experiment Sidney and Beatrice Webb, “You can’t make an omelet without breaking eggs.” How many eggs were actually broken to make this omelet? The authors of The Black Book of Communism estimate that as many as 100 million people died over a span of 80 years from the implementation of the communist ideology. Stalinist apologists often dismissed the horrors of the “purge” because it was all for a good cause—the liberation of the masses!

Once ethical norms become arbitrary, we can expect the dismantling of long-standing Christian familial relationships like marriage and heterosexuality. Radical feminist Gloria Steinem once described marriage as an institution that destroys relationships. “I don’t think marriage has a good name,” she wrote in 1987. “Legally speaking, it was designed for a person and a half. You become a semi-non-person when you get married.” So is Gloria a semi-non-person now that she is married? Social relationships have to evolve along with nature. For example, in Marxist theory, which is nothing more than the political side of philosophical naturalism, the family is viewed as an institution in evolutionary process that will pass away in time. Engels remarked that “human society arose out of a troupe of tree-climbing monkeys.” It should not surprise us, therefore, that biblical marriage is coming under attack. Homosexual couples are going to Vermont to “bless” their “unions” under the guise of legal respectability by civil decree.

Thinking Straight in a Crooked World
Thinking Straight in a Crooked World

The nursery rhyme “There Was a Crooked Man” is an appropriate description of how sin affects us and our world. We live in a crooked world of ideas evaluated by crooked people. Left to our crooked nature, we can never fully understand what God has planned for us and His world. God has not left us without a corrective solution. He has given us a reliable reference point in the Bible so we can identify the crookedness and straighten it.

Gary discusses recent logic being dropped regarding abortion on the daytime TV show, The View, by resident theologian Whoppi Goldberg. She claims that the decision is personal and should be between the woman, her doctor, and God. While she is quite complimentary and approving of the 10 Commandments, she is less informed about what immediately follows in the very next chapter in the Bible.
