Vaccinating Your Pets - What You Should Know Part 1

Article posted with permission from the author, Suzanne Hamner

It is a given when welcoming a dog into your family, a trip to the veterinarian (vet) will occur soon afterward. As a responsible pet owner, you want to make sure your new four-legged family member is healthy and stays healthy. Depending on the age and history of the dog (puppy and/or adopted), the visit to the vet consists of a physical examination, possible blood work, and the mandated-by-law rabies vaccine, core vaccines (DHLPP) – more on it later, and a nasal “vaccine” for kennel cough. Then, your family member will have yearly visits and visits when suffering illness and/or disease and needing a kennel cough booster.

With all the information that has surfaced with childhood and adult vaccines, the CONvid-1984 injections, and the Big Pharma companies, pet owners are now questioning the vaccines given to their pets in the same manner. And, well they should. This information in this series was obtained after research into pet vaccines occurred upon realizing two four-legged family members suffered from a vaccine reaction. It is possible other fur baby family members did as well, but no one considered it as a possibility.

Just as with humans, the vaccination of animals is a “hot button” topic. Some ferociously, viciously, and fiercely defend injecting healthy animals with “vaccines”, stigmatizing those who choose to opt out of vaccines for their pets. The reasons in support of vaccinating animals are the same as those given by supporters of vaccinating humans – it keeps them healthy, it protects against illness and death, it protects humans from getting deadly diseases, and it’s mandated by the State. Actually, only one vaccine for dogs is “mandated” by law in each State – rabies. The core vaccines (DHLPP) are not – they are only “recommended” and some non-core vaccines, to be covered later, are only recommended based on the circumstances in which the animal is exposed.

This is only a presentation of information, not advice, to help you determine the best course for your four-legged family member when it comes to vaccination. All resources used will be provided with each series for your reading and future reference. All readers are encouraged to read the sources contained in the resource list.

Rabies – a dreadful and deadly disease that is almost 100% fatal. Out of 40,000 – 60,000 cases worldwide, there have only been 7 human survivors. These figures are frightening and provide the bulk of the rationale for forcing rabies vaccinations through law on dog owners. Do the facts support the repeated vaccinations of dogs for rabies yearly?

According to the National Institute of Health (NIH), National Library of Medicine, 32 cases of rabies in humans were reported from 1980 to 1996. These cases were confirmed by laboratory studies. The data broke down as follows:

32 cases of human rabies were reported from 20 states. Patients ranged in age from 4 to 82 years and were predominantly male (63%). Most patients (25 of 32) had no definite history of an animal bite or other event associated with rabies virus transmission. Of the 32 cases, 17 (53%) were associated with rabies virus variants found in insectivorous bats, 12 (38%) with variants found in domestic dogs outside the United States, 2 (6%) with variants found in indigenous domestic dogs, and 1 (3%) with a variant found in indigenous skunks.

So, in a 16-year span, only two individuals had a variant found in indigenous domestic dogs in the US. This would indicate that human infection with rabies from dogs in the US is rare. The majority of cases were from bats and dogs outside the united States, through international travel, and only one case involving a skunk. This concurs with what Morgan Eliason reported in December of 2021.

Here is an overview of the sources of all known rabies cases in the USA over the past 30 years:

  • Raccoon bites – 44%
  • Skunk bites – 29%
  • Bat bites – 13%
  • Fox bites – 6%
  • No bite traceable – 6%

In North America and Europe together, the total number of rabies cases is less than 5 per year – and not a single one of them have been from dog bites the last 30 years!

In all of the USA’s history there are no records of rabies being transferred to people through bites from dogs that are kept as pets.

However, the article at NIH stated 2 individuals had “variants” associated with indigenous (from the US) domestic dogs. True, but the article did not state the “variant” that infected the individuals was the result of a domestic dog bite.

So, this just shows how effective the vaccination programs are, doesn’t it?

Wrong. This might have been the case if there had been a lot of rabies in the USA before the vaccine hysteria started in the seventies, but that is not the case…. The level was around 100 cases per year at the beginning of the century, and it dropped below 10 during WW II, and has remained down there, continuously dropping, until the huge-scale canine vaccination programs were introduced at a time when human deaths from rabies from dog bites in the USA were already down at zero….

What does the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) have to say about rabies in the united States – not that the CDC has proven itself a purveyor of truth?

Rabies cases were evaluated from 1938 to 2018. “From 1960 to 2018, a total of 125 human rabies cases were reported in the United States; 36 (28%) were attributed to dog bites during international travel. Among the 89 infections acquired in the United States, 62 (70%) were attributed to bats.” In this statement, the CDC indicated that out of 125 human cases, 36 were attributed to dog bites occurring during international travel – bites sustained while outside the united States. Out of the remaining 89 cases, 62 were attributed to bat bites. That leaves 27 cases of acquired human rabies with an unknown source – from 1960 to 2018 (58 years).

Further in the study, the CDC indicates, “During 1960–2018, among 125 reported human rabies cases, 89 were U.S.-acquired, including six organ transplantation cases.” If we remove the six organ transplant cases from the remaining 27 cases, only 21 cases of human rabies are designated with an unknown origin.

During 1938–2018, 588 cases of human rabies were reported in the United States. The elimination of CRVV in the United States through canine rabies vaccination has resulted in a tenfold decrease in human rabies cases reported from 1938 through 2018 (Figure 1). During 1960–2018, among 125 reported human rabies cases, 89 were U.S.-acquired, including six organ transplantation cases. Among all U.S.-acquired cases, 62 (70%) were caused by bat rabies virus variants (Figure 2). Since 1960, 36 (28%) U.S. residents have died of rabies acquired from dogs while traveling abroad. [Emphasis mine.]

Review the referenced Figures carefully and this from the CDC.

Now, according to the CDC, the canine variant version has been eliminated in the united States. Moreover, the CDC estimates “that 1.06 million dogs enter the United States every year, including 107,000 (10%) that are imported from countries where CRVV is enzootic, thereby posing a potential risk for reintroduction of CRVV into the United States. Since 2015, three canine rabies cases have been imported in rescue dogs adopted from countries with a high risk for rabies.”

Isn’t a simple solution to stop the importation of canines from countries where CRVV is enzootic (native to a place)? Of the 21 cases of human rabies with an unknown origin per the CDC, how many occur from skunks, foxes, coyotes, and raccoons? No figures are given from the CDC on that.

From what is known, through NIH and CDC, along with Eliason, human cases of rabies from indigenous (US) domestic dogs is very rare and the CDC claims the CRVV has been eliminated in the US. Eliason’s take on rabies in dogs is pretty simple.

We talk about risk of death, and we need to associate a likelihood to that before we can assess it. So, let’s first take a look at some other causes of death – and their likelihood, expressed in ppm/year (= “parts per million per year”), which is the average number of cases every year in a total population of 1 million “average” people. (Source Olnhausen & Gann, Acta Chiropterologica, 6(1): 163–168, 2004 – I added the red ones from other sources, for comparison.)

Various causes of death in the USA,on an average yearly basis: Total of cases and likelihood:

  • Number of people killed by lightening strikes = 90 or 0.3 ppm
  • Death from dog attacks (none of them causing rabies!) = 15-25 or 0.07 ppm
  • Deathly accidents with deer on roads = 200 or 0.7 ppm
  • Death by vending machines toppling on people = 2.4 or 0.008 ppm
  • Death by rabies from bats = 1.2 or 0.004 ppm
  • Death by car accidents = 27,000 or 90 ppm
  • Death by murder (men only – it is about one third for women) = 32,000 or 108 ppm
  • Death by influenza or pneumonia (for people older than 91 years) = 3,300 or 11 ppm

Let us do a little math on that: The 5% unvaccinated dogs of the 4 million dogs that bit people so badly that these people went to see a doctor represent a total of 20,000. Over 30 years, this makes 600,000. This makes the risk of contracting rabies from a dog that is unvaccinated go down below 2 ppm. It could be thousands of times less, but it cannot be any larger. The risk of getting murdered, in the USA, is about 108 ppm for men, just for comparison. The risk of getting killed in a car accident in Canada or Australia is about 30 ppm – at least fifteen times larger.

And now the $10,000 question: If we seriously consider 32 human deaths over 16 years a serious problem we should protect ourselves against, then why are we not vaccinating humans against rabies? The threat is obviously mainly from bats, not from dogs, so vaccinating our dogs in order to protect ourselves is utterly, completely, definitely meaningless!

Answer: The estimated cost of this prevention: $180,000,000, minimum – other estimates say $3,000,000,000 (three billion dollars) per year…

You see, when we talk about people, the government is concerned about the cost – because this involves everybody – so it will seriously impact elections. For dog owners, it is different. They constitute a minority that will never make a noticeable difference on an election day – so forcing them to pay costs nothing, politically…

To find information on rabies and mandates affecting animal vaccines, visit RabiesAware.org. You can find information specific to your State by using the interactive map. For local information about rabies in your local area, you can submit a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request or an Open Records Act, depending on your State, to the Department of Public Health and Animal Control Services. This will provide you with detailed information in your local area.

In the aftermath of the CONvid-1984 injection debacle and what is known about childhood and adult vaccines, the million-dollar question regarding animal vaccines has to be asked – “Do these vaccines work?” We have no idea any vaccine works, nor do we know they don’t. However, we do know that any vaccine can cause injury in humans. Would logic not dictate the same could happen to our four-legged family members? And, we hear repeatedly regarding vaccines for humans that the vaccines administered for certain diseases and illnesses provide “lifetime immunity”. By the same logic, would that not be true for our animal family members?

In order to make an informed decision regarding treatment for your animals, and yes, vaccines are treatments, you should have all the information needed to make a decision – information that vets may not be providing to their human parent clients. It is up to pet parents to research the information, just like parents of children have to research information to decide on vaccines for their child. After all, everyone’s goals are healthy children and healthy pets.

The next part of the series will focus on the rabies vaccine, adverse reactions with rabies and general adverse reactions, and harmful vaccine ingredients.

I am 71 and have never heard of a single human with rabies or Tetanus. I have noticed that when animals have been spotted acting crazy, it’s usually late summer when the animal water supply has dried up and they are forced to drink whatever runoff pesticide and herbicide that neighbors are spraying.
