Witchcraft on a Shoestring: Magic With Few Ingredients
I was recently asked this question: ”I’m new in this witch business. I don’t have ingredients to cast spells, so I need help.”
First, I’d say I’m always happy when people who are new to witchcraft ask questions. In this case I replied: “There are lots of examples of spells and rituals on my blog that don’t need much in the way of ingredients. You can just use a tealight candle, for example, for an easy candle wishing spell.”
There are lots of other spell suggestions on my blog under the page link Spellbook. They are free to use, and many of them require only basic things you can often find around the house, such as candles, paper and pens, wool or string, and common herbs you might find in your kitchen cupboard.

I’d also add that you don’t need to buy a wand to cast a circle. You can just point your finger to direct energy or go to a local park and pick up a stick to use as a wand. Space can be cleansed using a sprinkling of salty water – you don’t need to buy special herbs for smokecleansing. You don’t need a special altar either. Most witches will just clean and tidy an ordinary shelf or tabletop and use that as their altar while they’re doing magic.
