How to Keep Your Teeth As Healthy As Possible?

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

If you are looking to be healthier, a great place to start is your oral health. Many people overlook their oral health. Not only will it give you more confidence because you will have fresh smelling breath and a beautiful smile, but it’s important that your teeth and gums stay healthy too. This has so many benefits and most people do not know how issues going on in their mouth can end up causing issues with their entire body.

That is why experts, Michael Nugent DDS is here to share what you should be doing on a regular basis to ensure your teeth stay as healthy as possible. There may be some tips you didn’t even realize were important. Keep reading to learn more.

The first tip we have is a basic tip. It is probably one you have heard time and time again. It’s important to brush your teeth twice per day. The best time to brush them is actually after your meals so that you do not get any food stuck in your teeth and any foods or ingredients that are not as good for you get taken off and don’t erode your teeth. For example, if you drink soda, try and rinse your mouth after drinking it. This will help get the sugar off and not sit on your teeth for a long period of time. You can also use a straw so it bypassing your teeth and you simply drink it.

In order to have the best teeth and gums, try using a soft toothbrush. A hard toothbrush can actually damage because the bristles are too hard. Make sure to brush your teeth and move in a circular motion. Many people think they should be brushing hard and that will get the job done better. This is not true at all. Brush your teeth gently with care and make sure to hit each area of your mouth. This includes your tongue. If an area is consistently neglected, even if you don’t realize it and mean to, this can cause a cavity to form. Try and give each area of your mouth 30 seconds of brushing.

The next tip we have is the type of toothpaste you use. This is more important than you realize. With so many different choices out there it can be hard to know who to choose. Make sure your toothpaste has fluoride in it. This will help to harden the tooth enamel which will end up reducing your risk of getting a cavity as well as decay forming.

The third tip we have is to floss. You probably have been told since you were a child to floss daily. Do you know how truly important this step is? You miss so much of the food particles in your mouth when you only brush. When you floss, try it at the end of each day and get into a routine. Make sure to go slowly, especially if you have not flossed in a while. Go gently and do a sawing motion. Lastly, make sure you get each area of your mouth. Many people don’t go to the back because they have a harder time reaching it. Make sure you don’t make any excuses and get back there. Also, even if you don’t think anything is stuck between your teeth, there probably still is. Make sure flossing becomes a daily habit.

The next tip we have is to limit the number of soft drinks and fruit juices you are eating. Like we said earlier, sugary drinks are so bad for your oral health. They can cause a cavity and will even stain your teeth. Not only is sugar bad for your teeth but your entire body. Try and make the change to water. If you really do love soda, start cutting back. Limit yourself to a couple per week. Not only will your teeth thank you for it, but your health as well.

If you are playing any sports, try and wear a mouthguard. This will help to protect your teeth from shifting at all. A small shift can make a huge difference and cause a lot of problems for a long time. It can also end up being a costly injury. Save yourself the time and money and get a mouthguard made for your teeth.

Just like sugary drinks, try and avoid candy too, especially candy that sticks to your mouth. It will end up eroding your teeth if it is not brushed off soon after you consume it. Try and avoid candy and especially sticky and chewy candy.

Our last piece of advice is for anything you are putting in your mouth. Many people love chewing on ice. This can cause you to crack or chip a tooth. Try and be mindful of things you are chewing on. Don’t use your teeth to open something. This can end up being a painful mistake and one that you will end up needing to deal with for many years. Only put foods in your mouth and avoid chewing on things that can end up causing chips in your teeth.

As you can see, there are many simple tips you can do on a regular basis to ensure your teeth stay as healthy as possible. Although it’s normal to have regular wear and tear on your teeth, there are many things you can do to protect your teeth so they live a long and happy life.
